Creamy Vanilla Italian Soda - A Smooth, Refreshing Treat

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • Ice: Enough to fill a tall glass (about 1 to 1½ cups).
  • Club soda or sparkling water: 1 cup (240 ml), well chilled.
  • Vanilla syrup: 2 to 3 tablespoons, to taste. Store-bought or homemade.
  • Half-and-half or heavy cream: 2 to 3 tablespoons. Use more for extra creaminess.
  • Optional garnish: Whipped cream, a vanilla bean scrape, or a cherry.

Method

  1. Chill your glass. Pop a tall glass in the freezer for a few minutes. Cold glasses help keep the bubbles lively.
  2. Fill with ice. Add enough ice to reach the top. Crushed ice works beautifully for a smoother sip.
  3. Add the vanilla syrup. Pour 2 to 3 tablespoons over the ice. Start with less if you prefer a lightly sweet drink.
  4. Top with bubbles. Slowly pour in the club soda or sparkling water. Pouring gently keeps the fizz from overflowing.
  5. Stir lightly. Give it a quick stir to blend the syrup and soda without knocking out all the carbonation.
  6. Finish with cream. Float the half-and-half or cream over the top, then stir again to create a creamy swirl. Add more cream if you want it richer.
  7. Garnish and serve. Whipped cream or a cherry is optional but fun. Serve immediately while it’s cold and fizzy.
